On the US Black Friday weekend we did our annual trip down to Seattle to run their Marathon. We did our usual stop off at the outlet mall for clothing deals before volunteering at the racers expo. We had 7 youth run the Full-Marathon (42.2 km’s) and 11 run the Half-Marathon (21.1 km’s)! The youth were beasts hammering out their runs in one of the coldest runs we had. If you ever see these youth around be sure to give them a high-five!!

Mt. Kilimanjaro students have began their training hikes with hikes on the Diez Vistas Trail and part of the Baden Powell Trail. We are making these hikes available to interested individuals who would love to come out and support the youth on the hikes. For more detailed information please go our Kilimanjaro Training Hikes page.
We now have completed two of our seven training hikes for the summer. This time around we hiked the 13 km Diez Vistas Trail from Buntzen Lake recreation area. The weather was HOT and the trail steep but the Kili kids kicked butt! If you want to see these awesome kids in action on the trail check-out our video…
On Sunday, July 6th fifteen students attended their first Mt. Kilimanjaro training hike. We hiked the 13 km’s from Deep Cove to Lynn Canyon along the Baden Powell Trail.
Despite the rain falling the first half of our hike the temperature was warm and the spirits were high. Not only was it an opportunity to meet up as a Kilimanjaro team and hike together towards our common goal it was also a chance to get out on the trail and continue to build our excitement for our epic trip in 2015. Many students began to test out their mountain footwear for the first time and some foot care was required. The group worked together as a team, supported each other and while they were experiencing some first hike soreness all were happy to finally be training!
